Colourfield Abstracts & Original Artworks
I gradated from the
Ontario College of Art and Design (O.C.A.D.)
General Studies Dept. in 1985, and am presently
represented in over 400 Canadian Corporate
Art Collections, as well as many private collections.
My main focus has been on colourfield abstract
and original serigraph artworks.
My two dimensional art
has always been about the poetry of colour
and the expression of design.
With each monotype or varied edition,
my endeavor is to merge the physical laws of
colour theory with the mathematics of design
to create a strong visual impact.
This unique form of art has been finely tuned
to maximize the rich depth of colour you see before you.
Painted layers fuse and become one of the many
fluid moments required to finish each piece. The water soluble
pigment dries in the screen and when reactivated the wet
painting is transfered to the fine art paper.
The resulting mature colours and depth of image occur
from the merging of two or more of these layers.
My unique layered paintings are by proper definition
original serigraphs or a more common reference would be
"silkscreen mono type". Today's screens are made
of aluminum and industrially stretched fine mesh nylon.
Open field stencils have been created to accept
water-soluble pigments. The edge of the stencil
has been created with the look of decaled paper
to give a unique edge line to the finished art.
This new and unique method
of producing direct from the screen,
1/1 serigraphs, has been especially intriguing to me.
The layering of these fluid moments has added
a painterly quality to my work.
My titles are used in
numbered series. They are poetic phrases
reflecting my perception of each series.
Acrylic Paintings
The new acrylic paints are incredibly versatile.
Based on my original works on paper, I
use a combination of water soluble pigments
and liquid pigments to stain and
enhance standard acrylics.
As with my works on paper all are
finish coated with Ultra Violet inhibitors
to insure longevity.
Mixed Media Panels
This new work is a combination of media including original serigraphs, acrylic paints and wood panels or canvas. Using my original serigraphs as a starting point, I use acid free glue to mount the paper to board or stretched canvas. The borders and surface are often embellished with acrylics, painting sympathetically to the already mature serigraph. The final phase is to apply several layers of high gloss acrylic medium.
